How does jewish and biblical law decide who inherits?
A founder who sells control for a percentage can spend decades trying to buy back what the contract already settled. Art made inside a house belongs to whoever owns the wall, and an owner can sell it where the heirs, the state and the artist's country cannot stop the sale.

The rules of inheritance in jewish and biblical law
- Sons inherit first. A son inherits before a daughter, and a son's descendants inherit before a daughter. Mishnah Bava Batra 8:2. Source
- The firstborn takes a double share of the father's estate. Deuteronomy 21:17. Source
- Daughters inherit only when there is no son. The order is son, daughter, the dead man's brothers, his father's brothers, then the nearest kinsman. Numbers 27:8-11. Source
- The widow does not inherit; she collects her ketubah. The ketubah is a debt on the husband's estate, set at a minimum of 200 zuz for a virgin bride and 100 for a widow. Mishnah Ketubot 1:2. Source
- The widow is maintained from the estate and may live in the husband's house as long as she remains a widow. Mishnah Ketubot 4:12. Source
- Daughters are maintained from the estate until they marry. Mishnah Ketubot 4:11. Source
- When the estate is small, daughters come first. If a man leaves sons and daughters and the estate is large, the sons inherit and the daughters are maintained; if it is small, the daughters are maintained and the sons "go begging." Mishnah Bava Batra 9:1. Source
- An orphan daughter receives a dowry from the estate of not less than 50 zuz. Mishnah Ketubot 6:6. Source
- A man cannot change the order of heirs, but he can give gifts. A gift that passes over the sons is valid, though "the spirit of the sages is not pleased" with it. Mishnah Bava Batra 8:5. Source
- The gift in contemplation of death (matnat shechiv mera). A gravely ill man can give property by spoken word without a deed or formal transfer; if he gave away everything and recovers, the gift fails. Mishnah Bava Batra 9:6. Source
- The shtar chatzi zachar gives a daughter a share. The father signs a bond for a large debt to his daughter, payable just before his death, which she waives if her brothers give her half a son's share. Source
- The code. The laws of inheritance are set out in Shulchan Arukh, Choshen Mishpat, sections 276 to 289. Source
- Israel: civil law, equal shares. The Succession Law 5725-1965 makes spouse and children statutory heirs; children share equally regardless of sex (section 13); a ketubah owed to a widow is deducted from her statutory share (section 11). Source
- Israel: rabbinical courts only by consent. Under section 155 a rabbinical court may issue a succession or probate order only if all parties consent in writing, and may not give a minor less than the Succession Law gives. Source
