Yuli Ofer's last will gave most of his empire to his daughter; his son said he was no longer clear of mind, and the daughter won
Yuli Ofer was born in Galați, Romania, and founded Ofer Investments with his brother Sammy. Both brothers died in 2011. Yuli signed a will in April 2008 and a final will in November 2008. The final will left most of his assets, including his share of Ofer Brothers Investments, to his daughter Liora and sharply cut the share of his son Doron. The company held 71.5 percent of the mall owner Melisron, 19.8 percent of Mizrahi-Tefahot Bank and 98 percent of Ofer Brothers Shipping. Eitan Wertheimer, chairman of Iscar, witnessed the signing at Yuli's request, with two doctors present. He said Yuli was "completely lucid." Associates of Doron said the will was written after his father fell ill and was no longer clear of mind. A family friend said the aim was to equalise the children, since Doron already had large businesses. Another associate said Yuli was angry at Doron's resistance to changes at the bank. Yuli Ofer died at home in Herzliya on 11 September 2011. Doron objected to Liora's choice of executor, and the dispute went to family court. In 2015 Liora won, with nearly 52 percent of Ofer Investments. In January 2023 she bought the remaining 15 percent from her brother. Forbes lists her as sole owner of the company that controls Melisron.
A late change to a will survived challenge because a named witness and two doctors were present at the signing.
