The Book of Joshua says Achan hid silver and gold from Jericho in his tent, and Israel stoned him in the Valley of Achor with his sons and daughters present
Joshua 7 says everything taken at Jericho was "devoted" to God and could not be kept. Achan son of Carmi, of the tribe of Judah, took some of it. Israel then attacked Ai with about 3,000 men and fled, losing about 36. Joshua lay before the ark until evening. God told him Israel had taken devoted things and could not stand until they were removed, and that the guilty man would be burned with all he had. Israel was brought forward tribe by tribe, clan by clan and household by household until Achan was taken. He confessed: he had seen a fine mantle from Shinar, 200 shekels of silver and a gold bar weighing 50 shekels, coveted them, and buried them in his tent with the silver underneath. Messengers dug them up. Joshua and all Israel took Achan, the silver, the mantle, the gold, his sons and daughters, his oxen, donkeys and sheep, his tent and everything he had to the Valley of Achor. All Israel stoned them and burned them, and raised a heap of stones over him that the text says stood "to this day." Deuteronomy 24:16 forbids putting children to death for a parent's crime, and readers have argued for two thousand years over whether Achan's children died.
In the story the whole household and everything it owned shared one man's liability for stolen treasure.
The Bible Gateway Encyclopedia of the Bible says whether the children were stoned depends on whether "them" in Joshua 7:25 includes them, and on whether they knew of the theft: | The Talmud (Sanhedrin 44) gives one view that they were complicit and Rav Huna's view that they were brought only to watch and learn:
