Fiction: a TV series from 2021. The people and the estate in it are invented. It is here as an inheritance fight from popular culture.

In HBO's Succession, the children's veto over the family company sat in their parents' divorce deal, and their father and mother renegotiated it away

Succession is an HBO drama created by Jesse Armstrong about Logan Roy and the fight among his children to succeed him at Waystar Royco. In the third-season finale, aired on 12 December 2021, the children learn at their mother's wedding in Tuscany that Logan plans to sell the company to the tech firm GoJo. They remember a clause in their parents' divorce agreement that gives the children a vote on any change of control. They plan to vote together to block the sale. Shiv's husband Tom tells Logan. When the children confront their father, Logan puts their mother, Caroline, on the phone: the two have renegotiated the divorce terms and removed the children's vote. In the final season Logan dies, and the family finds an undated note in his papers naming Kendall as successor, with a pencil line by the name that could be an underline or a cross-out. In September 2023 Armstrong said, "If you were crossing something out, you wouldn't start underneath, would you?" In the finale, aired 28 May 2023, Shiv casts the deciding board vote for the sale. GoJo buys the company, and Tom becomes chief executive. None of the children inherits control.
