Jocelyn Wildenstein's divorce was reported at $2.5 billion, and the judge barred her from spending alimony on surgery

Alec Wildenstein was heir to the Wildenstein art dealership, one of the richest private art businesses in the world. He married Jocelyn Périsset in 1978†. In 1997 she found him at their Manhattan home with a 19-year-old model, and he was arrested after pointing a gun at her†. The divorce trial in New York was presided over by Judge Marilyn Diamond, who received death threats by mail during the case. In 1999 the court ordered Alec to pay. Most outlets reported a settlement of $2.5 billion plus $100 million a year for 13 years; some rumors went to $3.8 billion, and at least one estimate puts her total far lower. The judge stipulated that she could not use alimony for more cosmetic surgery. Alec died in 2008. Jocelyn filed for bankruptcy in 2018† and died of a pulmonary embolism in Paris on New Year's Eve 2024.

What the law took from it

Headline divorce figures are often reported, not proven; the court order is the only reliable number.
