Steve Bing's father asked a court to rule that Bing's two children born outside marriage were not his grandchildren, and lost

Steve Bing inherited about $600 million at 18 from his grandfather Leo S. Bing, a New York real estate developer. He had two children outside marriage. DNA tests showed he was the father of Damian Hurley, born 4 April 2002 to the actress Elizabeth Hurley, after Bing had denied it. A DNA test from his discarded dental floss showed he was the father of Kira, daughter of the tennis player Lisa Bonder. His father, Dr. Peter Bing, had set up trusts in 1980 for his future grandchildren. After Kira asked for information on the trusts, the trustee asked the Los Angeles Superior Court to read "grandchild" as excluding children born out of wedlock who had not lived in the family household as minors. Peter Bing filed an affidavit citing California Probate Code section 21115. He said he had never met Damian or Kira and did not consider them his grandchildren. Steve Bing's lawyers called the filing a sham and accused his father and his sister Mary of a "massive money-grab." In July 2019 Judge Daniel Juarez denied the motion: "There is no ambiguity in the Trusts' use of the term 'grandchild.'" Eleven months later Steve Bing, 55, died after falling from the 27th floor of his Century City apartment building. Town & Country reported that he had about $300,000 in liquid assets left^†.
