Nipsey Hussle was shot dead outside his store, and his family took guardianship of his daughter from her mother
Nipsey Hussle, born Ermias Asghedom, was shot dead in the parking lot of his store in South Los Angeles†. He left no will but had set up trusts for his two children, daughter Emani and son Kross. Emani's mother, Tanisha Foster, and Hussle's sister, Samantha Smith, fought in court over who would raise Emani. Foster broke down at a sealed hearing in May 2019, saying she would do "whatever it takes." The court later named Hussle's mother, Angelique Smith, his brother Sam Asghedom and Samantha Smith as Emani's guardians, including over her inheritance of more than $2 million. Reports said the court found the mother unfit†. Foster later petitioned to end the guardianship; the petition was dismissed and the trial cancelled after the parties signed a written agreement. Lauren London, Kross's mother, was separately given control of Kross's finances.
A parent who names a guardian in a will decides who raises the child; one who does not leaves it to a judge.
