B.B. King's daughters accused his manager and his assistant of poisoning him; the coroner found no poison and the manager kept control of the estate
B.B. King had 15 children, four of whom had died. LaVerne Toney had managed his road show for 39 years and held his power of attorney. On 29 April 2015 his daughter Karen Williams petitioned Clark County Family Court to become his co-guardian, alleging Toney was taking his money and neglecting his care. Hearing Master Jon Norheim dismissed the case: "There is no evidence of need for guardianship." Police and social services investigations had found no abuse. King died on 14 May aged 89. Daughters Karen Williams and Patty King then alleged, through lawyer Larissa Drohobyczer, that Toney and his personal assistant Myron Johnson had poisoned him to hasten his death. Both denied it. The coroner autopsied the body on 24 May. On 13 July 2015 coroner John Fudenberg reported no evidence of poisoning; the causes were Alzheimer's disease, heart failure, coronary disease and diabetes. King's will, dated 18 January 2007, named Toney sole executor. On 25 June 2015 District Judge Gloria Sturman confirmed her over the objections of four daughters and refused lawyers Benjamin Crump and Jose Baez permission to contest the will. The daughters alleged Toney had moved about $1 million into joint accounts; her lawyer said the money went into King's trust. Estimates of the estate ran from $5 million to $10 million. The trust documents were never filed publicly, and no later ruling on the estate appears in public reporting†.
When one person holds the power of attorney and is also the executor and trustee, the family has no independent record of where the money went.
