Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband ran her estate as conservator and moved most of her ashes to Budapest
Zsa Zsa Gabor married nine times. Her last husband, Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt, married her in 1986 and became conservator of her estate. In 2005 her daughter, Francesca Hilton, was accused of forging her mother's signature to get a $2 million loan against the Bel Air house; the court dismissed the case because Gabor did not appear or sign an affidavit†. Francesca died in 2015, and von Anhalt reportedly did not tell Gabor†. In 2013 Gabor sold the Bel Air house for $11 million on terms that let her live there until her death, with the buyer taking possession four months later. She died on December 18, 2016, at 99†. In February 2017 von Anhalt told the court he could not move out in time. As conservator he negotiated a six-month extension, a $300,000 cut in the price, and rent of $1,000 a month. Her belongings were auctioned in 2018, with some items selling for more than $20,000. Part of her ashes stayed at Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles. On July 13, 2021, von Anhalt buried the larger part in the artists' section of Kerepesi Cemetery in Budapest, working with Hungary's National Heritage Institute. He said the ashes had been kept in a safe in Germany. In January 2022 von Anhalt, who has no children, said he was adopting an adult son to inherit his own estate.
When a spouse is both conservator and heir, no one outside the marriage reviews the sale of the house or the disposition of the body.
