Zdzisław Beksiński was stabbed to death in his Warsaw flat in February 2005 by the 19-year-old son of his aide, after refusing a loan

Zdzisław Beksiński, 75, was found dead in his Warsaw apartment on 22 February 2005. He had been stabbed repeatedly in the head and chest; secondary sources count 17 wounds, two fatal†. Police arrested Robert K., a 19-year-old secondary-school pupil and the son of a longtime friend and aide of the painter. The Warsaw prosecutor said Robert K. admitted the killing. Robert and his 16-year-old cousin Łukasz had gone to the flat to borrow money. Beksiński refused and tried to phone Robert's father about it. Reports put the sum at about $100†. On 9 November 2006 a Warsaw court sentenced Robert K. to 25 years and Łukasz K. to 5 years for helping conceal the crime. The Appellate Court upheld Robert's sentence, was not convinced of Łukasz's guilt, and sent his case to retrial at the Warsaw Regional Court. The retrial result was not found†. Beksiński's son Tomasz had died by suicide in 1999†, so no child survived him. The sources found do not describe his will or the disposition of his estate†.

What the law took from it

A person who is trusted inside the household and knows its routines is the highest-risk visitor for a wealthy, elderly owner.
