Sunjay Kapur died at a polo match, and his children say the will leaving his Rs 30,000 crore estate to his widow is forged
Sunjay Kapur, chairman of auto-parts maker Sona Comstar, collapsed and died during a polo match in England on 12 June 2025†. A will dated 21 March 2025 leaves almost his entire personal estate to his third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur. His two children with actress Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan, sued in the Delhi High Court. They allege the will was forged after his death as part of a criminal conspiracy, and in their pleadings they called Priya an "acute gambler." His mother, Rani Kapur, backed the children. She told the court she was never told of the will, that it does not mention her, and that Priya did not disclose artworks, watches, bank balances and rental income. Priya's counsel, Rajiv Nayar, argued that a husband leaving assets to his wife is "a healthy tradition." Priya also asked that the children and Rani sign a non-disclosure agreement before she revealed the assets. The estate is reported at Rs 30,000 crore. Around 30 April 2026, Justice Jyoti Singh granted the children an interim injunction, froze the assets and barred Priya from dealing with them. Reports said the burden is on Priya to dispel the suspicions. Whether the will is genuine will be decided at trial. No next hearing date has been reported.
A will signed months before death and disclosed only to the main beneficiary invites a forgery claim from every relative it leaves out.
