Shannen Doherty signed her divorce settlement the day before she died of cancer

Shannen Doherty, star of Beverly Hills, 90210, filed for divorce from photographer Kurt Iswarienko in 2023 while being treated for breast cancer†. In June 2024 she asked the court to order him to pay $15,434 a month in spousal support. She said in a filing that it was "simply not right" that he be allowed to prolong the divorce in the hope that she died before he had to pay. She signed a stipulated settlement on 12 July 2024. Iswarienko signed on 13 July, the day she died at 53. A judge approved it and declared the couple divorced two days later. Under the agreement both waived spousal support. Doherty kept the Malibu house, a Salvador Dalí painting, several cars and all her acting earnings, and Iswarienko bought out her share of a jointly owned airplane for $100,000. She had no children. Where her assets go under her estate plan has not been made public.

What the law took from it

In a community-property state, a divorce not finished before death leaves the spouse with a claim on the estate.
