Rajesh Khanna's live-in partner sued his widow and daughters for 14 years, and his bungalow was sold for Rs 90 crore and torn down
Rajesh Khanna bought the sea-facing bungalow Aashirwad from the actor Rajendra Kumar in 1970 for Rs 3.5 lakh. He married Dimple Kapadia in 1973; they separated in the mid-1980s and never divorced. In his last years he lived at Aashirwad with Anita Advani. In 2009 he said he wanted the house to become a museum but that his daughters would decide. He made a will a month before he died on 18 July 2012, and in October 2012 the Bombay High Court confirmed it in favour of his daughters, Twinkle and Rinke. In November 2012 Advani filed a domestic violence complaint against Kapadia, both daughters and Twinkle's husband, the actor Akshay Kumar. She said she had been forced out of Aashirwad and was entitled to his property. In July 2014 the High Court let her see the will papers. That month Aashirwad was sold for about Rs 90 crore to Shashi Kiran Shetty of Allcargo Logistics, who demolished it in February 2016. In 2015 the High Court quashed the domestic violence case, ruling that her relationship with Khanna was not "in the nature of marriage." A Mumbai civil court dismissed her separate suit in 2017. On 1 April 2026 Justice Sharmila Deshmukh of the Bombay High Court dismissed her appeal. Advani says a will he made went missing and that she will keep fighting.
