Mohbad's father has kept the singer unburied for nearly three years until a court-ordered DNA test shows whether his grandson is his son's child
The singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, died on 12 September 2023 and was buried the next day. Police later exhumed the body. On 25 February 2025 Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje in Yaba, acting on the Lagos Director of Public Prosecutions' advice, found no case to answer against his former label boss Naira Marley, Sam Larry, Primeboy and Opere Babatunde. The DPP said it would prosecute the nurse Feyisayo Ogedengbe and his friend Ayobami Sadiq for reckless and negligent acts. In July 2025 the coroner, Magistrate Adedayo Shotobi in Ikorodu, said he could not certify a cause of death because of decomposition. He found that Mohbad likely suffered a fatal reaction to an injection, called it gross medical negligence, and recommended prosecution of the unlicensed nurse and an urgent reburial. He faulted the father, Joseph Aloba, for not demanding a death certificate or autopsy, and the widow, Wunmi, for not insisting on proper care. The father then demanded a DNA test on Wunmi's son, Liam. In March 2026 the Ikorodu court approved three laboratories, two in the United Kingdom and one in the United States. By July 2026 the test had not been done and the father said there would be no burial until it was. Status: nurse and friend to be prosecuted on DPP advice, trial outcome not reported†; paternity test ordered, not completed; body unburied.
A death with no certificate, no autopsy and no will leaves the body itself as the thing the family fights over.
