Juan Gabriel left everything to one son, and a man claiming to be another son asked a court for part of his remains
Juan Gabriel, born Alberto Aguilera Valadez, wrote more than 1,800 songs†. He died of a heart attack in Santa Monica at 66. His son Iván Aguilera was named sole beneficiary. Joao Aguilera said he was also the singer's son and was owed a share. He asked a Los Angeles Superior Court to release part of Juan Gabriel's remains for a DNA paternity test. In August 2017 the court denied the motion. Iván's lawyer called the request plainly improper and beyond any California court's jurisdiction. Iván and his wife, Simona, sued Univision for $100 million for defamation, saying Joao had chosen to argue his case in the press. Another of the singer's sons, Alberto Aguilera Jr., lives in a house that belonged to his father and that his brothers dispute, according to La Jornada. The estate also won more than $1 million from a promoter for an unpaid performance fee.
Cremation and a single named heir leave paternity claimants with no body to test and no share to take.
