Michael Oher of "The Blind Side" learned he was never adopted, and a judge ended the Tuohy conservatorship
Michael Oher played eight seasons in the NFL† and his life became the film The Blind Side. In 2023 he petitioned the Shelby County Probate Court, saying Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy, the family shown adopting him, had instead placed him in a conservatorship in 2004, when he was 18. He alleged he was led to believe it was an adoption and that the Tuohys earned money from his name and story. The Tuohys denied using him for financial gain or hiding money, and said they would end the conservatorship without a fight. On 29 September 2023 Judge Kathleen Gomes ended it. She said that in 43 years she had never seen a conservatorship over someone who was not disabled. The money claims continued, including a demand for a full accounting with interest and allegations of false signatures. No final ruling or settlement was found in the sources reviewed†. All claims against the Tuohys are allegations.
A conservatorship gives another adult legal power over a person's money, and it lasts until a court ends it.
