The Bible says King Hezekiah showed Babylon's envoys his treasury, and Isaiah told him his heirs would lose it; Babylonian tablets record rations for a captive king of Judah
2 Kings 20 says the Babylonian king Merodach-baladan sent envoys and a gift to Hezekiah, king of Judah, after hearing he had been ill. Hezekiah showed them his storehouses: "the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious oil, his armory." The prophet Isaiah told him that everything his ancestors had stored up would be carried to Babylon. "Nothing shall be left," says the Lord. Some of his own sons would be taken to serve as eunuchs in the Babylonian king's palace. Hezekiah called the word good, reasoning that there would be "peace and security in my days." His son Manasseh succeeded him. 2 Kings 24 says the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar later took Jerusalem, carried off the treasures of the Temple and the palace, and cut up the gold vessels Solomon had made. He took King Jehoiachin, his mother and wives, and 10,000 captives. 2 Kings 25 says that in the 37th year of exile a new Babylonian king released Jehoiachin and gave him an allowance for life. Robert Koldewey's excavations at Babylon, 1899 to 1917, found ration tablets near the Ishtar Gate. They list oil for "Ya'u-kinu, king of the land of Yahudu" and for five sons of the king. The main tablet, VAT 16378, is in the Pergamon Museum, Berlin. No trace of Hezekiah's treasury has been identified.
Showing a fortune to a stronger power tells that power what there is to take.
The ration tablets list five sons of the king of Judah; 1 Chronicles 3:17-18 names seven sons of Jehoiachin:
