Chadwick Boseman died in 2020 without a will, and his widow filed in Los Angeles to run an estate first listed at $938,500
Chadwick Boseman died on 28 August 2020 of colon cancer at 43. He had married Taylor Simone Ledward shortly before his death. He left no will. About 15 October 2020, nearly two months later, Ledward petitioned the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles, to be named administrator of the estate with limited authority. The filing valued the estate at about $938,500 and noted it was unclear whether he held other money or property. It listed his heirs as Ledward and his parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman; the couple had no children. A hearing was set for November 2020. Later entertainment-press reports citing court papers gave higher values, between $2.5 million and $3.8 million†, and said the balance would be split between the widow and his parents†. Ledward would need court approval to sell any real estate. No contest and no final distribution were found in a primary source†.
A person with a spouse and no children who leaves no will lets state law split the estate between the spouse and the parents.
