A 2014 letter said the four Hinduja brothers owned everything jointly, and the eldest brother's daughters fought it through his dementia and death

Srichand Hinduja was the eldest of four brothers leading the Hinduja Group. On 2 July 2014 he and his brothers Gopichand, Prakash and Ashok signed a letter stating that assets held in any one brother's name belonged to all four. In June 2015 he made lasting powers of attorney naming his wife Madhu, then his daughters Vinoo and Shanu. He had Lewy body dementia. His lawyers say the brothers first used the letter in 2018, to seek control of Hinduja Bank in Switzerland, held in his sole name. On 7 November 2019 Srichand, acting through Vinoo, sued them in London to have the letter declared of no effect. In June 2020 Gopichand questioned in the Court of Protection Srichand's capacity to sign the 2015 powers. In February 2021 the daughters disclosed they may have paid legal costs from his money, and stood down as attorneys. In 2022 the London claim was stayed by agreement. Madhu died; Srichand died months later, on 17 May 2023. Gopichand died on 4 November 2025. In Jersey the daughters allege Srichand was tricked into signing the letter. On 13 January 2026 a Jersey court ordered a trial on whether the family's Acorn Trust must take the letter into account. A probate fight is pending over two wills: one of 2016 naming Vinoo executor, and one of 1992 naming Ashok executor and Gopichand a beneficiary. On 4 August 2026 the Court of Protection let the parties review part of its files for use in both disputes.

What the law took from it

An informal family letter signed alongside formal estate documents gives every branch a document to sue on, and doubts about capacity reopen both.
