Siam's 1924 succession law barred princesses, so King Vajiravudh's only child, born as he lay dying, could not inherit his throne

King Vajiravudh issued the Palace Law on Succession, published in the Royal Gazette on 12 November 1924. Section 11(4) excluded any prince whose consort was a woman "whose original nationality was other than truly Thai." Section 12 excluded that prince's sons and direct descendants as well. Section 13 said the time had not yet come for a royal woman to reign and barred every princess from the line. Vajiravudh's brother Prince Chakrabongse had been educated in Russia under the care of Tsar Nicholas II and had married a woman from the Russian Empire†. Their only child, Prince Chula Chakrabongse, was born in 1908. Vajiravudh had no son. His fourth and last consort, Suvadhana, gave birth to a daughter, Bejaratana, on 24 November 1925 in the Grand Palace. The king, on his deathbed, learned it was a girl from the music in the courtyard. He died of an intestinal illness at 1.45 a.m. on 26 November. Section 13 kept the baby out. The throne went to his younger brother Prajadhipok, who gave the princess her name. Prajadhipok abdicated in England on 2 March 1935 and gave up his right under section 5 to name an heir. On 7 March the cabinet declared his nephew Ananda Mahidol first in line under section 9, and the Assembly approved. Chula was not named. Bejaratana moved to England with her mother in 1938 and moved back to Thailand in 1959†. She died on 27 July 2011, aged 85.

What the law took from it

A rule written for one generation decided the next; the king's only child was disinherited by his own law.

Record vs. record

soravij.com dates Bejaratana's return to Thailand to 1959; English Wikipedia gives November 1957:
