Indonesia's Supreme Court ordered General Suharto's Supersemar foundation to pay about 4.4 trillion rupiah

Suharto founded the Supersemar scholarship foundation on 16 May 1974. A 1976 government regulation directed half of 5 percent of state bank net profits to it. By 1998 it had received about $420 million and 185 billion rupiah. Prosecutors dropped the criminal case against Suharto on 12 May 2006 because he was medically unfit for trial. The state then sued the foundation. On 27 March 2008 the South Jakarta District Court ordered it to pay $105 million and 46 billion rupiah. On 28 October 2010 the Supreme Court raised the order to $315 million and 75 percent of 185 billion rupiah. The written ruling misstated the rupiah figure as 185,918,904 instead of 185 billion, so it could not be enforced. On 8 July 2015 a Supreme Court review fixed the total at about 4.4 trillion rupiah. His son Tommy was convicted in 2002 of ordering the killing of a Supreme Court judge, and was released on 30 October 2006. On 25 September 2024 the People's Consultative Assembly removed Suharto's name from its 1998 anti-corruption decree. On 10 November 2025 he was named a National Hero under President Prabowo Subianto, his former son-in-law. How much of the 4.4 trillion rupiah has been collected is not public†.

What the law took from it

A civil judgment against a foundation outlasted the founder, but one clerical error in the amount delayed enforcement by five years.
